| From Lüsen to Brixen (12km) – Diocesan and Crèche Museum: Hofburg castle, residence of prince-bishops of Brixen, houses an important collection of sacred artwork (60 exhibition rooms). Can be viewed from 10am to 5pm. Brixen Cathedral: baroque style building with paintings by Paul Troger, Adlerbrückengasse 4; on to Neustift and a visit to the Augustinian Abbey there (along a foot path on the right-hand bank of the river Eisack). To Franzensfeste, central Europe’s largest fortress. | From Lüsen-Dorf via Lüsen-Berg to Rodeneck with a visit to Rodenegg castle: 12th century defensive castle with famous Iwein frescoes, guided tours at 11am and 3pm (0472 / 454280). On to Mühlbach-Vintl to visit the Loden museum (0472 / 868540). Bruneck: beautiful old town or the South Tyrol Museum of Ethnography, Dietenheim (0474 / 551764), on to Taufers Castle in Ahrntal (0474 / 678543), back to St. Lorenzen, into the Gadertal to St. Martin in Thurn with a viewing of the Ladin Museum, open from Easter to 31 October (0474 / 524020); Würzjoch (2000m above sea level): beautiful view to Peitlerkofel; on to the renovated lime kiln and then back to Lüsen. |

| Sterzing (founded by the Fugger family): viewing of the mining museum at Jöchlsthurn. At the entrance to the Ridnauntal a hike through the romantic Gilfenklamm, the only gorge in the world that is deeply cut in marble (walking time approx. 1 hour): visit to the South Tyrol Museum of Hunting and Fishing in the baroque castle of Wolfsthurn in Mareit (0472/758121) or the mining museum Maiern Schneeberg (0472/656364) at the end of the valley. |
