Snowshoeing in South Tyrol
Winter Silence on the Untouched Paths of the Dolomites
The Lüsnerhof is a pioneer in snowshoeing in South Tyrol. Nestled in the Dolomites, the nature hotel offers ideal conditions for this impressive experience. With decades of experience from host Franz and local guides Robert and Manni, our guided snowshoe hikes lead to peaceful, untouched spots on the snow-sure Lüsner Alm and in the Puez-Geisler Nature Park. Surrounded by hills and alpine meadows, tranquil coniferous forests, and majestic peaks, each tour offers a break from everyday life and the chance to experience winter romance amidst the Dolomites. Short drives, diverse routes, and the feeling of freedom and relaxation make every hike unforgettable.
Our Hiking Philosophy
Hiking is More Than Just a Path – It’s a Journey to Yourself
Step by step, feel your body, gaze across peaks, listen to marmots, and inhale the scent of alpine roses. Through the Lüsner Alm, the Puez-Geisler Nature Park, and the Dolomites, not only does the body move, but so does the mind. Ascents and descents, pace and pause – just like life itself.
In the tranquility of the mountains, a deeper truth is revealed: when duty and haste give way, only the essential remains – a clear mind, freedom, and a deep connection to nature. The rhythm of nature offers mindfulness and deceleration. Climbing a peak, enjoying the view, reaching a mountain hut, and rewarding yourself with a delicious dish – hiking shows us the abundance of life in its purest form.
TIPS AND ESSENTIAL INFORMATION ABOUT SNOWSHOEING
Warmth and comfort are key when it comes to snowshoeing and winter hiking. The best approach is to layer your clothing to ensure flexibility and protection against the cold. Start with breathable base layers, such as T-shirts (bringing an extra one to change into at the summit), long underwear, or leggings made of merino wool or cotton for moisture-wicking and warmth.
Next, add a wind- and water-resistant layer, such as waterproof trekking pants and an outdoor jacket, or even light ski gear. Don’t forget to wear warm gloves, thick socks, and a hat or headband to keep your extremities warm and protected from the cold.
Layering helps you regulate your body temperature, keeping you warm during breaks and cool during activity, ensuring you can enjoy your snowshoeing or winter hiking adventure comfortably.
In addition to high-quality snowshoes from "TUBBS," we also provide trekking poles and backpacks. Everything you need for a safe and comfortable hike in the Dolomites is available on-site. It’s also recommended to bring a small backpack with warming tea, some water, and possibly a snack for the journey. After all, snowshoeing can work up quite an appetite!
The Lüsner Alm and the Puez-Geisler Nature Park offer a variety of hiking routes suitable for both beginners and experienced hikers. We offer guided snowshoe hikes as part of our weekly program*. You can find suitable routes and trails in the immediate vicinity on our winter hiking map (see below). Our hiking experts are also happy to provide tips and recommendations to ensure you have the best experience.
*Guided snowshoe hikes with transport, snowshoe and equipment rental, and optional stops at our own alpine hut or a summit picnic (small fee of €18.00).
The tours last between 2 and 5 hours, depending on the route and difficulty level, taking you to breathtaking views and idyllic, untouched locations. It's important to remember that hiking through the snow is significantly more demanding than hiking in summer. Therefore, it’s recommended to plan shorter routes than you would in the warmer months. Our hiking experts are happy to help you find the right route for your ability and experience level.
